How much does a gorilla permit cost in Uganda in 2026?

A gorilla trekking permit for a foreign non-resident is $800 per person, $700 for foreign residents, and the four-hour habituation experience permit is $1,500. Permits are issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and are confirmed only once paid in full, which is why we take a 30% deposit at booking.

Is Uganda or Rwanda better for gorilla trekking?

Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park is quicker to reach from Kigali, but permits cost $1,500. Uganda's Bwindi offers the same gorilla families' experience at $800 with more habituated groups and better value on lodging. If your time is very short, we start you in Kigali and drive you into Bwindi.

What is the best time of year for a Uganda safari?

June–September and December–February are the drier peak months with the easiest trekking conditions and the highest lodge rates. March–May and November are green season: lodge rates drop 20–30% and the forest is spectacular, with muddier trails.

How fit do you need to be for gorilla trekking?

Moderate fitness is enough. Treks last one to six hours on steep, often muddy terrain at 1,500–2,500 m. Porters are available at every trailhead and we can request an easier gorilla family for travellers with limited mobility.

What should I pack for a Uganda gorilla safari?

Waterproof hiking boots, long trousers and long sleeves, a rain jacket, garden gloves for vegetation, insect repellent, a daypack, and a camera without a flash. Lodges provide laundry, so pack light.

How many days do you need in Uganda for a safari?

Three days is the minimum for gorillas only. Five days adds chimpanzees and savannah game viewing. Ten days covers all four signature parks at a comfortable pace.
